Piers Morgan has claimed that Prince Andrew’s ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, sent him a message of support when he resigned from “Good Morning Britain” over his incendiary comments about Meghan Markle.
The former ITV host wrote in a column that the Duchess of York told him to “get back out there” in a text a month after he refused to apologize to the Duchess of Sussex.
Morgan, 56, has claimed that “several members of the royal family” had reached out to him after he called out Markle and Prince Harry for their bombshell claims in their sit-down with Oprah Winfrey, the US Sun reported.
In his column for the Mail on Sunday, Morgan said Ferguson, who also is known as Fergie, was among the royals who supported him.
“Not all Royal duchesses were as thrilled as Meghan ‘Pinocchio’ Markle to see me leave GMB,” he wrote. “‘People have said how much they miss your morning joy and humour,’ texted Sarah, Duchess of York, ‘get back out there!’”
Morgan also joked about possibly teaming up with Fergie to host a new show together.
“Perhaps we should start a new breakfast show together… ‘Morgy and Fergie in the Morning’, anyone?” he wrote.
In an interview with “Extra,” Morgan told host Billy Bush he had the support of several family members, the Mirror reported.
“I’ve had some messages communicated to me on behalf of several members of the royal family,” he said.
Asked by Bush if the backing came from “upper level people,” Morgan answered: “I’m not going to go into who it was.”
Markle has filed a formal complaint about the TV firebrand over his outbursts on hosting “Good Morning Britain.”
He stormed off the set in March after his co-star Alex Beresford called him out for continuing to “trash” Markle following her blockbuster interview with husband Prince Harry.
Morgan later explained that he was “annoyed” so he “went for a little cool-down, and came back to finish the discussion.”
Since the explosive Oprah sit-down, Morgan has repeatedly criticized Markle, 39, for agreeing to the interview — calling the move “an absolutely disgraceful betrayal of the Queen and the royal family.”
“I expect all this vile destructive self-serving nonsense from Meghan Markle — but for Harry to let her take down his family and the Monarchy like this is shameful,” he wrote on Twitter.
Last week, it was reported that Markle will likely “fight back” against Morgan for calling her a liar — and possibly use her “very aggressive legal team” against him.
